This article is for Supermicro X8 generation IPMI only. This is only applicable for our L5640-48 and X5675-96 series dedicated servers.
As the X8 generation motherboards are older, their respective IPMI software is no longer actively maintained by Supermicro. Please be aware of the following caveats when using X8 generation IPMI software.
Browser Choice
Newer releases of Google Chrome do not support Java-based console redirection. You may get the error "Failed - File incomplete" when attempting to download the jviewer.jnlp file from the IPMI interface.
Solution: We recommend using the latest version of Firefox to access the IPMI interface.
No Response to Keyboard Input
For unknown reasons, the Java-based IPMI viewer has difficulties capturing or sending keyboard strokes initially after being brought into focus.
Solution: Bring the IPMI viewer into focus by clicking your mouse on the window. After bringing the window into focus, wait 20 to 30 seconds before trying to type anything. During this time, do not put the window out of focus (ie. click another window on your computer), otherwise this timer may reset. After the 20 to 30 seconds, you should be able to type normally and there should be minimal delay between keystrokes and a response from the server.
Buggy Mouse Clicks
If you're using a GUI-based operating system, you may notice that every time you click your mouse on the screen, the cursor jumps from its current position to the upper left hand corner of the screen.
Solution: Change the mouse mode to "Relative" mode. You can do this under the "Mouse" menu of the IPMI viewer.
